21% of staff have no recruitment training

A survey by Reed Consulting has revealed that 21% of staff involved in recruiting staff have been trained in recruitment techniques.

This obviously contributes to the number of poor appointments made and to the statistic researched by BRC that 40% of Executives in a new job fail within two years.

This is certainly true of companies that I have worked for.
The problem is that line managers are often too unwilling to waste time on recruitment training when they feel that they are good at it without.

When we came accros this statistic it certainly rang true for our organisation.

As a result we have now ensured that prior to interviews taking place all those meeting with a new candidate will receive some sort of instruction.

This has resulted in a much better process for us.

I have been interviewed by various employers who were at best inept ande at worst in breach of law. Companies should really ensure that their managewrs are trained in the complexities of interviewing.

When there is an job failure it always tends to be the appointee who gets the blame rather thasn those who selected the individual
